Steel Shipments Up 6.5 Percent in August

U.S. steel mills shipped 8.4 million net tons of steel in August, reported the American Iron and Steel Institute, Washington. Steel shipments for the month were up 6.7 percent from July and increased 6.5 percent over August 2017.
Shipments of hot-dipped galvanized sheets and strip were up 11 percent from July, while hot-rolled sheets and cold-rolled sheets both increased 3 percent.
Through August, the U.S. has shipped 63.7 million net tons of steel, a 4.6 percent increase over the first eight months of 2017.
