U.S. Rep. David McKinely (R-W.Va.) told a Rotary Club audience that JSW is expected to fire up the electric arc furnace at its Mingo Junction site by the end of the month, the Wheeling Intelligencer reported.
The EAF at the site, which has been idled since 2009, has a production capacity of 1.6 million tons.
JSW acquired the facility from Acero Junction earlier this year, two of numerous owners for the site since it was sold by longtime owners Wheeling-Pitt.
The facility has an electric arc furnace, caster and flat-rolling mill, with 3 million tons of capacity on its 80-inch-wide hot-strip mill. The company was reformed to provide hot-rolled bands to service centers, processors, cold-rolled strip producers, pipe and tube makers and, OEMs, JSW executives said.
