Brass Mill Imports, Exports Decline in August

U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products decreased in August compared with the corresponding 2018 period, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council, Washington. Imports declined 11.6 percent to 41.7 million pounds, while exports totaled 18.8 million pounds, a decrease of 17.5 percent.
For the year to date, imports of brass mill products totaled 346.7 million pounds, down 2 percent. Year-to-date exports through August were down 17 percent to 175.2 million pounds.
Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products at 6.4 million pounds, followed by Canada at 5.5 million pounds, Saudi Arabia at 790,373 pounds, China at 730,386 pounds and United Kingdom at 651,883 pounds.
Imports from Germany in August totaled 8.7 million pounds, followed by Vietnam at 5.2 million pounds, Mexico at 4.3 million pounds, South Korea at 3.8 million pounds and Canada at 2.9 million pounds.
Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 14 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 6.7 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 16.6 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 4.4 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 8.7 million pounds, while exports totaled 6.5 million pounds.
