Brass Mill Imports Up, Exports Down in 2018

U.S. imports of brass mill products increased in December and exports decreased, according to the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council, Washington.
Imports totaled 42.7 million pounds in December, a 15.5 percent increase over the year-ago month. Exports for the month dropped 22 percent year over year to 18.9 million pounds.
For the year, imports of brass mill products totaled 528.5 million pounds, a 7.9 percent increase. Exports in 2018 decreased 6.1 percent to 246.7 million pounds.
Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in December at 5.3 million pounds, followed by Canada at 4.5 million pounds, China at 704,085 pounds, South Korea at 650,397 pounds and Germany at 447,516 pounds.
Imports from Germany totaled 10.6 million pounds in November, followed by South Korea at 4.8 million pounds, China at 3.5 million pounds, Mexico at 3 million pounds and Japan at 2.4 million pounds.
Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 15.6 million pounds in November, while exports of those products totaled 5.9 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 12.6 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 2.2 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 10.6 million pounds, while exports totaled 5.7 million pounds.
