Brass Mill Imports Up, Exports Down in July

U.S. imports of brass mill products saw year-over-year increases in July, while exports decreased slightly for the month, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council, Washington. Imports totaled 49.7 million pounds in July, a 14 percent increase. Exports for the month dropped 0.1 percent year over year to 20.8 million pounds.
For the year to date, imports of brass mill products totaled 306.6 million pounds, a 6 percent increase. Exports through the first seven months of 2018 were down 3 percent to 152.7 million pounds.
Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in July at 8.8 million pounds followed by Canada at 5.8 million pounds, China at 978,196 pounds, United Arab Emirates at 622,711 pounds and South Korea at 616,283 pounds.
Imports from Germany in July totaled 11.9 million pounds, followed by South Korea at 4.7 million pounds, Mexico at 4.6 million pounds, Vietnam at 4.1 million pounds and Canada at 3 million pounds.
Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 19.2 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 8.4 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 17.5 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 4.6 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 9.8 million pounds, while exports totaled 6.5 million pounds.
