Global Steel Output Increases in October

Nov 26, 2024 Global steel production in October increased 1 percent to 152.1 million metric tons, Brussels-based worldsteel reported. Year-to-date production remained down 1.6 percent at 1.55 billion tons.
The United States produced 6.6 million tons in October, down 2 percent compared with the same month in 2023. Year-to-date production was down 1.9 percent to 66.7 million tons.
China returned to growth mode in production after several months of decline. Chinese mills produced 81.9 million tons in October, up 2.9 percent from the same month in 2023. Production for the full year remained down 3 percent.
India also continued its upward trajectory, with production of 12.5 million tons in October, a 1.7 percent increase. Year-to-date production in India totaled 123 million tons, a 5.6 percent increase.
North America as a whole produced 8.8 million tons in October, down 3.6 percent compared with last year. Full-year production was down 3.8 percent to 88.8 million tons.
