Global Steel Production Drops in October

World crude steel production totaled 145.7 million metric tons in October, a 10.6 percent decrease compared with the same month in 2020, the Brussels-based World Steel Association reported. Year-to-date production of 1.6 billion tons was up 5.9 percent from the prior year.
A massive year-over-year decline in production from China drove the global fall in October. Chinese production in October was down 23.3 percent to 71.6 million tons.
The U.S. produced 7.5 million tons in October, a 20.5 percent increase compared with the prior year. Japanese production was up 14.3 percent to 8.2 million tons and South Korean production declined 1 percent to 5.8 million tons.
