March Brass Mill Imports, Exports Down

U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products decreased in March, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council, Washington.
Imports totaled 42.4 million pounds in March, a 0.8 percent decrease. Exports for the month dropped 16.3 percent year over year to 18.9 million pounds.
For the year to date, imports of brass mill products totaled 124.5 million pounds, an increase of 5.5 percent. Exports through the first three months of 2019 were down 11 percent to 56.7 million pounds.
Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in March at 6.6 million pounds, followed by Canada at 6.2 million pounds, China at 1.2 million pounds, Germany at 459,013 pounds, and United Arab Emirates at 299,424 pounds.
Imports from Germany in March totaled 9.2 million pounds, followed by South Korea at 5.2 million pounds, Mexico at 4.2 million pounds, Canada at 3.1 million pounds, and Japan at 2.7 million pounds.
Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 16.4 million pounds in March, while exports of those products totaled 6.3 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 14.4 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 3.9 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 8.9 million pounds, while exports totaled 7.3 million pounds.
