Red Metal Shipments Flat in December

Shipments of most copper products increased slightly in December, compared with the previous month, reports the Copper and Brass Servicenter Association, Overland Park, Kan. 

Total warehouse shipments increased 0.1 percent in December to just under 17 million pounds. Finished goods shipments were worth $2.1 million, a decline of 22.8 percent in value from November. 

Among copper strip and sheet products, C100 shipments declined 7.9 percent to 4.5 million pounds in December. C200/300/400 shipments decreased 21.6 percent 3.6 million pounds, while C500/600/700 shipments declined 26.1 percent to 581,000 pounds.


In copper plate, C100 shipments declined 17.47 percent to 189,000 pounds, C200/300/400 shipments dropped 54.6 percent to 54,000 pounds and C500/600/700 shipments of 43,000 pounds declined 28.3 percent from the prior month.

Among copper rod/bar/profile/hollow shipments, all but C800/900 shipments (down 35.6 percent to 248,000 pounds) saw significant increases in December. C100 shipments increased 49 percent, while C200/300/400 and C500/600/700 shipments increased 26.6 percent and 39.5 percent, respectively.

Among pipe and tube products, C100 shipments of 841,000 pounds increased 14.4 percent in December. C200/300/400 and C500/600/700 shipments decreased 62.5 percent and 19.1 percent, respectively.
