Red Metal Shipments Up in January

Shipments of copper products increased in January, compared with the previous month, reports the Copper and Brass Servicenter Association, Overland Park, Kan. 

Total warehouse shipments increased 33.1 percent in January to 22.6 million pounds. Finished goods shipments were worth $2.7 million, an increase of 29.2 percent in value from December. 

Among copper strip and sheet products, C100 shipments increased 0.7 percent to 4.5 million pounds in January. C200/300/400 shipments increased 18.7 percent to 4.3 million pounds, while C500/600/700 shipments grew 18.8 percent to 690,000 pounds.

In copper plate, C100 shipments increased 79.9 percent to 340,000 pounds, C200/300/400 shipments jumped 244.4 percent to 186,000 pounds and C500/600/700 shipments of 75,000 pounds grew 74.4 percent from the prior month.

Among copper rod/bar/profile/hollow shipments, C100 shipments increased 27.5 percent, C200/300/400 shipments increased 104 percent, C500/600/700 shipments increased 33.8 percent and C800/900 shipments grew 119.8 percent. 

Among pipe and tube products, C100 shipments of 919,000 pounds increased 9.3 percent in January. C200/300/400 and C500/600/700 shipments increased 336.5 percent and 594,1 percent, respectively.
