Service Center Shipments Decline in June

Steel shipments in June decreased for the eighth consecutive month in the U.S. and for the 11th consecutive month in Canada, reports the Metals Service Center Institute, Rolling Meadows, Ill. Aluminum shipments were also down in both countries.

U.S. service center steel shipments decreased 11.4 percent from June 2018. Shipments of aluminum products decreased 1.5 percent from the same month last year.

Canadian center steel shipments in June declined 7.1 percent from June 2018.  Shipments of aluminum products decreased 5.9 percent from the same month last year.

Longshoremen, Port Operators Agree to Deal

The International Longshoremen’s Association and United States Maritime Alliance have reached tentative agreement on all items for a new six-year master contract. The two sides agreed to continue to operate under the current contract until the union can meet with its full wage scale committee and schedule a ratification vote, and USMX members can ratify the terms of the final contract.
