Service Center Shipments Jump in March

By on

Steel and aluminum shipments in March increased by double digits in both the U.S. and Canada, according to the monthly report from the Metals Service Center Institute, Rolling Meadows, Ill.

The gains were not just a result of a comparison against the COVID-affected March 2020, as the shipment rates for both metals in the two countries exceeded the monthly rate at any point in 2020 and 2021.

U.S. service center steel shipments in March increased by 12 percent from March 2020. Shipments of aluminum products increased by 16.7 percent from the same month last year.

In Canada, service center steel shipments increased 15.5 percent in March compared with the same month in 2020. Aluminum shipments were up 14.5 percent from the prior year.
