The American Iron and Steel Institute voiced support for the U.S. House passage of the Moving Forward Act. The house bill is the latest attempt at a more robust infrastructure bill.
“It is critical for the American steel industry that Congress and the White House pass a long-term infrastructure bill – which is long overdue. Today’s passage of legislation in the House has helped highlight the importance of robust infrastructure investment in getting our economy moving again, especially for the steel industry,” said Kevin Dempsey, interim president and CEO of AISI. “An updated and efficient infrastructure network is paramount for our industry, not only to move goods to market but also to provide the steel needed to build and repair our nation’s crumbling roads and bridges.”
The association also cited provisions in the bill that would ensure Buy America requirements were retained in the bill. “Federal law should continue to mandate that federal infrastructure dollars be used to buy steel that is produced entirely in the United States, and we are pleased that the House agreed,” Dempsey said.
