Steel Shipments Decline in December

Steel shipments softened considerably in both the United States and Canada in December compared with the previous year, the Metals Service Center Institute reported in its monthly Metals Activity Report.
U.S. service center steel shipments declined 6.4 percent in December compared with the same month in 2020. Aluminum shipments from U.S. service centers defied the monthly trend, increasing 5.3 percent from the same month the previous year.
Canadian service centers shipments decreased 14.3 percent compared with December 2020. Aluminum product shipments declined 4.7 percent compared with the same month the prior year.
