World Steel Production Increases in July

Sep 4, 2023 World crude steel production for the 63 countries reporting to worldsteel was 158.5 million tons in July, a 6.6 percent increase compared with the same month in 2022. For the year to date, global crude steel production was nearly flat.
The U.S. produced 6.9 million tons in July, a 0.5 percent increase compared with the same month last year. Year-to-date production of 46.8 million tons remained down 2.3 percent overall.
Production in North America overall again defied the global trend, as output was down 1.2 percent compared with July 2022. Year-to-date production in North America was 64.1 million tons, down 3.5 percent compared with the prior year.
China produced 90.8 million tons in July, up 11.5 percent compared with the same month last year. India was also up double digits at 14.3 percent, producing 11.5 million tons.
