Ferrous85 Co. will install and operate the largest slitting line in North America at Steel Dynamics’ new Sinton, Texas, facility, the company says. Ferrous85 will provide SDI and its customers toll slitting of hot-rolled and hot-rolled pickled and oiled material.
The Ferrous85 slitter, which will be operational by September, is capable of processing incoming master coils in widths from 36 inches to 85 inches and up to 105,000 pounds. Slit width capacity of the line ranges from 6 inches to 85 inches in gauges from 0.090 inches to 0.750 inches.
Ferrous85 possesses proprietary arbor and tooling technology that provides a very consistent, high quality slit edge which is ideal for edge and width sensitive applications such as ERW pipe production, the company claims.
“The SDI Sinton plant is a cutting-edge, next-generation EAF flat-roll mill that we are proud to partner with to service their needs and the needs of their customers," said President Ed Gonzalez. “Our slitting capabilities and experience are a perfect fit with SDI and their customers. We’re very excited about this opportunity and also look forward to becoming a partner of the South Texas community.”
