Aluminum Dynamics Breaks Ground

By on

Steel Dynamics’ new venture, Aluminum Dynamics, has broken ground on its $2.5 billion aluminum manufacturing plant in Lowndes County, Mississippi. The facility is the first nonferrous project for the Fort Wayne, Ind.-based steel minimill.

SDI announced plans in June to build and operate a 650,000-metric-ton aluminum flat-rolled mill, plus two supporting satellite recycled aluminum slab centers. The mill will produce low-carbon aluminum from recycled material.

Steel Dynamics’ facility will be located near its existing flat-rolled steel mill. Columbus was chosen given its location within the targeted Southeast market.

The company expects to begin production in mid 2025.
