Blue Blade Steel, Kenilworth, N.J., has installed Part 2 of its investment strategy with the introduction of EBNER Smart Flat technology to its mill. The technology is designed to resolve distortion through the width of the coil during production.
With the Smart Flat system, the line self-adjusts and monitors the flatness continuously, the company claims. It also coordinates an in-line measurement with intuitive communication back to the Flex Flat to automatically adjust should the concavity deviate from specification.
“Closing the loop on flatness was the goal,” said Jerry Shaw, president/owner of Blue Blade Steel. “We knew the Flex Flat system would work, and we are so impressed with the results that we are already breaking into new markets.”
Blue Blade Steel is the first U.S. company using the technology. Blue Blade is a processor of strip spring steel.
