Dearborn Works to be Idled

By on

Just a few weeks after AK Steel was acquired by Cleveland-Cliffs, the company’s Dearborn Works facility will be idled in response to the spread of COVID-19. The company informed Local 600 – United Auto Workers of the decision.

The union leadership did not know how long the facility would remain idled. Union employees were asked to report to work to bring down the operation properly, though those employees feeling sick or showing symptoms were urged to stay home.

“I want to commend our new CEO, Lourenco Goncalves, and our plant management here in Dearborn Works for making the decision to put our people’s health and safety first,” UAW Local 600 Steel Unit President Steve LaBodie wrote in a letter to union members.
