MetalX LLC has chosen Defiance, Ohio, as the site of its new aluminum slab casting facility. The company will invest $253 million to construct the facility, which is expected to become operational in the first half of 2027.
The slab casting facility will produce 220 million pounds per year of ultra-low carbon aluminum rolling slab, prioritizing alloys for beverage, packaging and auto industries. It will feature higher recycled content than otherwise available in the market, the company claimed.
The advanced scrap processing operation, expanding from MetalX's Indiana base, enhances separation and shredding for slab facility consumption and third-party aluminum.
MetalX chose Defiance because the site met all key criteria for the project, including transportation, rail access, proximity to sources of scrap supply and customers, plus a strong workforce development environment.
MetalX is an independent metals recycling business based in Fort Wayne, Ind. It engages in nonferrous scrap processing, consulting and management services.
