Mexico became the first of the three participating countries to ratify the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement in late June. Passage was still waiting from the U.S. and Canada.
"Mexico's action in ratifying the USMCA is a critical step forward in putting this important trade agreement in place,” said American Trucking Associations President and CEO Chris Spear. "Ensuring free and fair trade with our closest neighbors is critical to the trucking industry, which moves $772.3 billion worth of goods across our borders with Mexico and Canada.”
The Canadian parliament is expected to ratify the measure this summer. The pact has not yet come up to a vote in the U.S. Congress, which is likely the biggest hurdle to implementation given the partisan split in the two houses of Congress.
