For the second-straight year, Metal Center News’ Service Center Executive of the Year honor is serving as a fitting retirement present.
Gregg Mollins, the president and CEO of Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., is the choice for the 22nd installment of the annual honor, the highest in the service center business. And only one day after MCN sat down with Mollins to cover his career in the service center industry, Reliance announced his plans to retire from the top spot at year’s end.
Mollins has been leading North America’s largest service center company since 2015, when he assumed the mantle from Dave Hannah. But before taking the top spot, Mollins was an integral part of Reliance’s growth into a $10 billion enterprise, handling a variety of positions before becoming chief operating officer in 1995 and company president in 2002.
Mollins will continue to serve as senior advisor to the CEO and on the board of directors through the end of 2019. He will be replaced by current Executive Vice President and COO Jim Hoffman.
Last year, MCN’s honor went to Bill Partalis, who stepped away from Kloeckner Metals at the end of 2017.
