President Donald Trump was inaugurated Monday. He didn’t take the rest of the day off.
The once and current president issued a slew of executive orders on his first evening back in the White House. Some were declarations without much in the way of policy positioning and some will certainly wind up in court if implementation follows.
Naturally, the president included trade in his executive orders, though it was a subsequent announcement that drew the most attention. The 47th president suggested the U.S. will impose 25 percent tariffs on Mexican and Canadian products, eyeing Feb. 1 as his target date.
If the president turns that announcement into policy, it will have a major shakeup on U.S. trade, including in the industrial metals space.
