Service Center Shipments Tumble in March

Apr 30, 2024Service center shipments of steel and aluminum plummeted in both the U.S. and Canada in March, the Metals Service Center Institute reported in its latest Metals Activity Report.
U.S. service center steel shipments declined 12.3 percent compared with March 2023. Aluminum shipments from U.S. service centers were down 14 percent from the same month last year.
The story was even more dramatic in Canada. Steel shipments tumbled 20.8 percent compared with March 2023, while aluminum shipments from Canadian service centers declined 17 percent compared with the same month one year earlier.
