American Consolidated Industries Inc., a leading metals service center and supplier of flat-rolled coil, sheet and ERW tubing, has completed the largest acquisition in its history with the purchase of Gary, Ind.-based T&B Tube Company.

Heather Malone has been appointed CEO of Target Steel, Flat Rock, Mich. The appointment was one of several executive promotions for North America’s 24th largest service center company with 2023 revenues of $783 million.

Advanced Gauging Technologies has received a new purchase order from Feroleto Steel Co., Inc. Knoxville, Tenn. The gauge will be installed on a 64-inch Braner Turret Head slitting line and is scheduled to ship in June.

Reliance Inc., Scottsdale, Ariz., reported stronger first-quarter results than anticipated on better-than-expected shipment levels and gross profit margin. The company sold a record 1.63 million tons in the quarter, a 9 percent increase from the first quarter of 2024.

Nucor Corporation, Charlotte, N.C., has promoted Thomas J. Batterbee to executive vice president of human resources and talent and Elizabeth Bledsoe to the newly created position of president of human resources and talent. Both appointments are effective May 11.

Steel Dynamics shipped a record 3.5 million tons of product in the first quarter, resulting in net sales of $4.4 billion, a 6.9 percent decline from the same quarter in 2024.

Canadian service centers continued to struggle in March, with double-digit decreases in shipments for both steel and aluminum products, the Metal Service Center Institute noted in its latest Metals Activity Report.

World crude steel production for the 69 countries reporting to worldsteel totaled 166.1 million metric tons in March, a 2.9 percent increase compared with March 2024. For the year to date, global production remained down 0.4 percent to 468.6 million tons.

The outlook for metalformers continued to decline in March, the Precision Metalforming Association reported. The group has seen falling optimism levels from survey respondents since the start of the year.

The U.S. imported 1.8 million tons of finished steel products in March, up 11.9 percent compared with February, the American Iron and Steel Institute reported. Net tons were up 11.4 percent to 2.5 million tons.
