October Steel Shipments Up 12.8 Percent

U.S. steel mills shipped 7.7 million net tons of steel in October, reports the American Iron and Steel Institute. October steel shipments were up 12.8 percent from the same month last year and 2 percent from September.

Shipments of hot-dipped galvanized sheets and strip were up 6 percent, while shipments of cold-rolled and hot-rolled sheets were down 2 percent and 5 percent, respectively.

Through October, the U.S. has shipped 76.1 million net tons of steel this year, a 4.8 percent increase over the first 10 months of 2016.
