
Red Metals Shipments Up in January

Feb 28, 2018Red metals shipments in January increased considerably compared with the same month in 2017, reports the Copper and Brass Servicenter Association. Total warehouse shipments of 21.7 million pounds were up 14 percent from January 2017.
The shipment gains were evident in both main categories. Total copper shipments increased 12.3 percent to 11.1 million pounds, while alloy shipments of 10.5 million pounds were up 15.9 percent.
Sheet products showed the biggest gainers compared with January 2017, with 200 series strip and sheet up 36.9 percent to 4.4 million pounds and copper sheet and strip up 26.2 percent to 5.5 million pounds. The only major product category to see a decline in January was copper rod and bar, where shipments fell 3 percent to 4.8 million pounds.
