Samuel Steel Pickling Co. celebrated its 30th anniversary with the opening of a new heavy gauge slitter at its Twinsburg, Ohio, facility. The line is capable of processing material yield strength up to 70,000 psi at 0.375 gauge and 80,000 psi at 0.250 gauge, with a maximum coil weight of 80,000 pounds.

Steel Dynamics has selected a Sinton, Texas, site for its new $1.7 million flat-rolled steel mill. The facility will be located in the Corpus Christi region. SDI had previously narrowed its site selection to five locations in Texas and Louisiana.

Nucor Corp., Charlotte, reported net earnings of $386.5 million in the second quarter, a decline of 43.4 percent from the same quarter last year, and down 23 percent compared with the first quarter. First-half net earnings of $888.3 million were 14.6 percent below 2018.

Steel shipments in June decreased for the eighth consecutive month in the U.S. and for the 11th consecutive month in Canada, reports the Metals Service Center Institute, Rolling Meadows, Ill. Aluminum shipments were also down in both countries.

Mill Steel Co., Grand Rapids, Mich., will rebrand its steel framing company, Steel Structural Products. The company will now be called Mill Steel Framing.
