Global Stainless Production Up 5.8 Percent in 2017

Mar 28, 2018Global stainless steel meltshop production increased 5.8 percent to 48.1 million metric tons in 2017, reports the International Stainless Steel Forum, Brussels.
Fourth-quarter production of 12.5 million tons was up 3.1 percent from the same quarter in 2016.
Production in the United States showed the greatest increase among major producers, increasing 11.0 percent to 654,000 tons. U.S. production was relatively flat in the fourth quarter.
Chinese production in 2017 increased 4.7 percent to 25.8 million pounds. European production of 7.4 million tons was up 1.3 percent, Asian production excluding China and South Korea increased 4.5 percent to 8.0 million tons.
