U.S. imports of brass mill products declined slightly in March, while U.S. exports increased compared with the corresponding 2016 period, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council, Washington. Imports declined 0.4 percent to 40.0 million pounds, while exports increased 15 percent to 24.9 million pounds. For the year to date, imports totaling 113.9 million pounds were up 6 percent, while exports climbed 10 percent to 65.6 million pounds.

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports in March at 9.1 million pounds, followed by Canada at 7.3 million pounds, China at 1.7 million pounds, Saudi Arabia at 1.1 million pounds and South Korea at 713,517 pounds.

Imports from Germany in March totaled 10.0 million pounds, followed by Mexico at 4.3 million pounds, South Korea at 4.0 million pounds, Canada at 3.5 million pounds and Vietnam at 2.5 million pounds.

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 13.3 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 10.0 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 13.7 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 5.2 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 9.6 million pounds, while exports totaled 8.0 million pounds.
