Shipments of Steel Down, Aluminum Up in April

U.S. steel shipments decreased for the sixth consecutive month, while Canadian steel shipments fell for the ninth straight month. Reports Rolling Meadows, Ill.-based Metal Service Center Institute in its latest Metals Activity Report.

April service center steel shipments decreased by 5.3 percent from April 2018. Shipments of aluminum products increased by 3.1 percent from the same month in 2018.

Canadian center steel shipments in April decreased by 13.2 percent year over year. Shipments of aluminum products increased by 4.5 percent from April 2018.

ONI to Open Fab Facility in Tennessee

O’Neal Manufacturing Services will invest $8.5 million to open a 41,000-square-foot steel fabrication facility in Kingsport, Tenn. The company’s custom steel fabrication center in Kingsport will support medium-to heavy-gauge steel fabrication including steel plate burning, machining, shot blasting and flattening.
