The U.S. imported 2 million tons of finished steel in October, a 5.1 percent increase from the prior month, the American Iron and Steel Institute reported. Total imports of steel came in at 2.4 million tons, up 7.2 percent from the prior month.

Cleveland Cliffs has announced an increase in spot market base prices for all carbon hot-rolled, cold-rolled and coated products. The minimum $60 per ton increase was effective Nov. 28 with all new orders, the company said.

The Canadian government has authorized $4.9 million in funding under the National Trade Corridors Fund for the Building Capacity in Canada’s Steel Supply Chain project. The funding will relieve congestion at the Port of Hamilton.
