Ryerson reported third-quarter sales of $832 million, an increase of 7.7 percent from the prior quarter though down 24.7 percent compared with the same quarter in 2019. For the year to date, Ryerson’s revenues of $2.61 through nine months were down 26.2 percent compared with the prior year.

North American Steel Alliance has developed a new tool to allow users to locate a metals service center by location and/or product offerings. The Find Steel: NASA Member Search tool identifies any of the 300 NASA member locations.

Nucor Corp. will purchase a paint line facility in Armorel, Ark., from Precoat Metals. The paint line facility, located near the Nucor Steel Arkansas sheet mill campus, has a capacity of approximately 250,000 tons per year. Nucor considered building a greenfield paint line before deciding to acquire the Precoat Metals facility.

Butech Bliss has purchased a manufacturing facility in Salem, Ohio, to expand its operations. The former operations of Solartec Inc. and Columbus McKinnon Corp. offers 50,000 square feet of space, providing room to meet the company’s needs. Its location is right next to Butech’s facility on 440 Pennsylvania Ave.

Worthington Industries was named FCA Supplier of the Year in the category of raw materials during the virtual 2020 North America Annual Supplier Conference and Awards. AZZ Inc., Fort Worth, Texas, has completed the divestiture of its AZZ SMS LLC operating business unit to Mid-State Machine and Fabricating Corporation, a privately held company based in Lakeland, Fla. Mid-State acquired the SMS business and assumed a 26,155-square-foot facility located in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The U.S. imported 1.26 million net tons of steel, including 1.17 million tons of finished steel, in September. Net imports were down 2.8 percent and finished steel imports declined 1.1 percent compared with the prior month.

The pandemic’s effect on the construction industry was felt in 2020, and will continue to weigh the industry down into 2021. That was the consensus of several industry executives who participated in a webinar presented by METALCON.

BIG KAISER Precision Tooling, Hoffman Estates, Ill., has promoted Jack Burley to president/COO as of January 1, 2021. Chris Kaiser, BIG KAISER President and CEO of 30 years, will take on the role of executive advisor.

Global steel production increased 2.9 percent to 156.4 million tons in September compared with the previous year, the Brussels-based World Steel Association reported. Total global production in September totaled 156.4 million tons.
