Jacksonville, Fla.-based Southeastern Metals Manufacturing, which manufactures metal building products, has ordered a .030-inch by 60-inch Light Gauge Slitting Line from Red Bud Industries.

Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., Los Angeles, reported record sales of $3.85 billion in the third quarter, an 84.5 percent increase compared to the same quarter last year. Sales were up 12.5 percent from the prior quarter.

Algoma Steel Group Inc., a leading Canadian producer of hot- and cold-rolled steel sheet and plate products, has entered into a joint venture with Triple M Metal LP, one of North America’s largest privately-owned ferrous and non-ferrous metal recycling companies. The new entity, ATM Metals Inc., will source prime scrap metal and other iron units to meet Algoma’s business needs, including in connection with its potential transformation to electric arc steelmaking.

On Oct. 27 and 28, Bystronic Inc. held its Grand Opening celebration, which included a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for its 165,000-square-foot facility in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Algoma Steel Group Inc.'s Chief Commercial Officer, Robert Dionisi, has indicated his pending retirement from the company, a leading Canadian producer of hot and cold rolled steel sheet and plate products. The retirement will be effective May 1, 2022. Rory Brandow, Algoma’s director of regional sales, will succeed Robert as vice president of sales.

Red Bud Industries is expanding its manufacturing facility in Red Bud, Ill., by approximately 55,000 square feet, which will bring the facility’s total space to over 250,000 square feet.

Gene Deych has joined MC Machinery, Chicago, as a regional sales representative for lasers, automation equipment and press brakes. Based in Aurora, Colo., Deych covers Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Southeast Idaho.

Owen Industries, Inc., Carter Lake, Iowa, has acquired the assets of Omaha Steel in Wahoo, Neb. This acquisition provides OII an opportunity to acquire a newly built facility, considered one of the strongest and most capable steel foundries in the U.S.

Steve Brown, Chicago-based MC Machinery’s Regional Sales Manager for EDM and Milling, has expanded his territory to 10 states, including Minnesota, western Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming.

Growth in metal shipments from service centers continued to slow in North America, the Metals Service Center Institute reported in its latest Metals Activity Report. Canadian steel shipments actually declined in September.
