Nucor’s board of directors has approved a steel bar micro mill project. The company is considering five states in the Midwest and the Southeast for the project. Nucor’s board also approved the expansion of its existing merchant bar operations in either Illinois or Ohio.

For its new steel bar micro mill, Nucor is considering locating the facility in Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, South Carolina or Florida.

Both the micro mill project and the expansion of its merchant bar operations are part of Nucor's planned strategy for long-term profitable growth, executives say. By leveraging Nucor's existing operating abilities, these projects will maintain the company’s position as a low-cost producer and will allow it to better serve its customers.
