Steel Shipments Up 5.8 Percent in July

U.S. steel mills shipped 7.9 million net tons of steel in May, reported the American Iron and Steel Institute, Washington. Steel shipments for the month were down 1 percent from June but increased 5.8 percent over July 2017.

Shipments of hot-rolled sheets were down 3 percent from June and shipments of hot-dipped galvanized sheets and strip were down 4 percent. There was no change in cold-rolled sheets.

Through July, the U.S. has shipped 55.2 million net tons of steel, a 4.3 percent increase over the first seven months of 2017.
