Liberty Steel Products Holdings, North Jackson, Ohio, has acquired a majority interest in Mississippi Steel Processing, LLC. MSP is a toll processor located on the campus of Steel Dynamics’ Columbus, Miss., flat-roll mill.
MSP offers slitting, leveling and cut-to-length products in gauges from 0.015 to 0.625 inches in a 245,000-square-foot-facility. The processor has annual capacity of 750,00 tons.
Under Liberty, MSP will continue offering a complete array of toll steel processing services in the southeast and surrounding markets and intends to build on its position as an independent steel processor.
“We look forward to our partnership with MSP and to enhancing its steel processing capabilities,” said Liberty President and CEO Jim Grasso. “In addition to the firm’s existing heavy gauge hot-rolled slitting and cut-to-length capabilities, MSP is in the process of designing world-class heavy-gauge stretcher leveling and blanking equipment that will be operational in 2019. MSP is also installing light-gauge slitting capacity that will come on line by the end of this calendar year.”
“The enhanced capabilities to be completed after the acquisition are key components of our plan to significantly improve the range of steel products, quality, capacity and timely availability of toll steel processing we offer throughout the southern U.S. market,” concluded Grasso.
“We are excited for the future of MSP and our partnership with Liberty” said Chip Gerber, president of MSP. “The experience and reputation of Liberty in the industry is a welcome addition to our team at MSP. The planned enhancements made to our processing capabilities will better align MSP with our customers’ strategic objectives.” continued Gerber.
