American Alloy Steel Founder Moore Passes Away

Apr 19, 2024 American Alloy Steel Founder Arthur Jewel Moore Jr., 98, passed away April 16. Born in 1925 to Ethel and Arthur Moore, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and contributed to the victory in Germany.
Upon his return to the U.S., he went to work in the steel industry, working for Republic Steel, Colorado Fuel & Iron, Jessop Steel and Mills Wolf. In 1971, he founded American Alloy Steel.
Under his leadership, AAS became a leader in specialty steel distribution, known for its commitment to quality and customer service. Starting from a home office in Houston, he grew the company to six stocking locations in the U.S. and Canada.
Earlier in the month, he and his family completed the sale of the company he founded to Reliance.
He was preceded in death by wife Mary Ellen. He is survived by daughters Kathleen Covey and Barbie Moore and son James Patrick Moore, plus 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
