National Tool & Manufacturing Installs Grinding Machine

By on

National Tool & Manufacturing Co. has completed installation and validation of a new gantry surface grinding machine at its Elgin, Ill., facility.  The expansion continues National's expansion of more value-added processing to complete the company’s focused steel offerings.  This is the first gantry machine in North America from Zeirsch GMBH, a leading global supplier of ultra-precision grinding equipment. It allows for plates over 70 inches wide.

National's plate processing headquarters in East Dundee, Ill., processes and distributes alloy and stainless plate, heavily into the mold and die building industry.

"The need to grow in size and precision is a direct result from customer demand" says Eric Sandberg, president of National Tool & Manufacturing.  "We have continually grown with downstream value-added processing to support customers need for speed and precision and to become an extension of their shops versus only a material supplier.  Our stainless grade had a lot to do with that.”

The stainless grade is the exclusive VR Stainless holder plate National processes and distributes, primarily for mold building applications.

"The stainless mold building clients we work with specialize in highly technical, high-precision tools with nearly zero tolerance.  This new addition extends our reach at the mold base machining division to provide highly machined plates for medical, packaging, and closure molds,"  Sandberg said.
