ESAB Launches Rustler EM 280 Pro
ESAB has unveiled the Rustler EM 280 PRO, its next generation inverter-based MIG welder to improve productivity, boost quality and simplify training in industrial fabrication applications. Rustler EM 280 PRO has a maximum welding output of 280 amps and rated output of 200 amps at 60 percent duty cycle. It connects to 208V/230V single-phase primary power plus/minus 15 percent and features Power Factor Correction to lower primary power draw.
The Rustler can provide its full output range on a 30A breaker, where older-generation technology required 50A service. It offers an energy efficiency of 82 percent to lower utility bills. After two minutes of idle time, it enters an energy saver mode to further reduce power consumption.
The Rustler EM 280 PRO comes ready to weld most common base materials with factory-optimized arc programs for carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, silicon bronze and flux cored wires from 0.023 to 0.045 inches. It has the power to deliver the productivity benefits of spray transfer welding with 0.045-inch solid and flux cored wires and 0.047-inch aluminum wires. It can weld up to ½-inch steel and 3/8-inch aluminum in a single pass.

Fronius Offers Assistance Systems
WireSense, TouchSense, SeamTracking and TeachMode are assistance systems for robotic welding designed by Fronius to improve weld quality and increase efficiency in industrial manufacturing. The welding wire acts as a precise sensor for the robot and simplifies welding path programming or detects deviations in the component position as well as air gaps over the course of the seam.
Using this data, the robot can then correct the weld path –adjusting it precisely based on the identified position points – to save material, time and cost, as rework and component rejects are no longer an issue.
In spite of advanced robot technology and almost seamlessly interconnected systems, inaccuracies and deviations repeatedly occur in industrial production. In some cases, minimal material differences or imprecise clamping devices can have a negative influence on the welding result and potentially cause time-consuming rework, costly component rejects or huge cycle time losses.
